On October 1st my colleague, Amanda Coleman, and I facilitated Tummy Temple’s Vitality Night. The Temple hosts one of these per month to give you a taste of our experiential offerings; they are designed to evoke your inner vitality. The theme on this night was “The Power of the Witness”. We witnessed ourselves in the presence of others through breath work and stream of consciousness writing. It was a sweet, vulnerable and powerful evening. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to share with you a piece of writing that came through me on that evening.
The prompt was “In this moment my body is saying…” The instruction is what I employ in my Body Stories writing group. The prompt is read, the pen hits the paper and, in this case, we wrote for three minutes without lifting the pen from the paper. Then, we each share what we have written receiving no feedback or commentary, simply being witnessed. This is exactly as it was written.
“In this moment my body is saying thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for listening. Thank you for hearing me. Thank you for your willingness to ‘do something different’. Oh thank you for starting all this twenty five years ago and staying with it. Thank you. Really, I can’t thank you enough—our survival depended on it and you did it and it was hard, really hard sometimes and you stayed with me and you stay with me. Thank you. Thank you for witnessing me, for loving me, for continually healing me. Thank you.”
I give thanks for those who were present that evening, to you reading this now and, most of all, to my amazing grateful body.
In gratitude,
