Types of Hormone Replacement Therapy
After a thorough evaluation, there are many ways to address hormone imbalances in both men and women. Discover the variety of treatment options we offer at Tummy Temple below.
This is a bioidentical hormone replacement therapy in the form of compounded pellets that are inserted into the body subcutaneously in a quick and simple in-office procedure.
These pellets will gradually be absorbed, dispersing hormones throughout the body at a continuous rate to alleviate the rollercoaster effects other types of hormone replacement therapy can cause.
After the procedure you do not need to think about taking your hormone daily, pellets last from 3-6 months depending on the person and the dosage – so you may only need to have the procedure twice a year!
This treatment involves the use of compounded bioidentical hormone in the form of creams, gels, or patches to be used on the skin daily.
The hormone is intended to be absorbed through the skin and needs to be dosed regularly to maintain levels int he body.
Oral BHRT is when your doctor writes you a prescription for hormone medication, similar to other medications you need to take this daily by mouth to maintain hormone levels int he body. This method relies on your digestive system to absorb the hormone.
Based on your needs, your doctor may recommend supplements (herbs, vitamins, minerals, etc.) to support your bodies natural production of hormones and hormone metabolism. Sometimes this is in combination with BHRT, sometimes it is a stand alone treatment if you do not need or qualify for BHRT.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy FAQs
What is hormone optimization?
BHRT is designed to replace the loss of hormones that happens to our bodies over time.
At Tummy Temple we perform a detailed intake to understand your symptoms and needs to address these changes in the most optimal way for you.
What is BHRT?
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy is the use of hormones that have the same chemical structure as the hormones our body makes. This means that there are less side effects and less negative reactions.
What are the risks of BHRT?
There are some risks associated with BHRT, most are patient specific based on your personal and family history, some are related to the form and dosage of the hormone you will be taking.
Your doctor will outline all risk (and benefit) in detail as you develop a treatment plan specific for you.
When is the best time to start BHRT?
Most women will be interested in BHRT when symptoms become intolerable – there is no specific age this happens. Many women start BHRT during peri-menopause and this is the most optimal time to start BHRT for the most benefit to longevity.
If you are already in menopause it is still safe to start BHRT so long as it has been within 10 years of your last menstrual period.
